Adonai and I is a great, irie, newly emerging force in Jewish Music, bringing spirit-infused roots reggae and dub interpretations of traditional Hebrew prayers, psalms, and melodies. Check out their self-titled debut album on I-Town Records. Adonai and I is spearheaded by bass player/producer David "Solid" Gould, and features rhythm and horn sections of JBB, Craig Akira Fujita (vocals), Michael O'Connor (saxophone/flute), Ken Field (flute), and Amy Glicklich (vocals). A dub remix of
the original CD, Adonai and I
was released November 27, 2001 on Tzadik Records,
Adonai in Dub,
and can be found in many record stores.
Matisyahu, AKA Matthew Miller, definitely was the rising star on the Jewish reggae horizon in 2005-2006, even reaching MTV. In his own original way, he combines the sounds of Bob Marley and Shlomo Carlebach, with hints of the "Bobo-dread" style. He showcases his albums such as
"No Place To Be", and "Youth", on his Matismusic website.
In this interview with the Jewish Week, Matisyahu talks about his breaking off from Chabad, and now being "just frum".

BennyBwoy "The Original Jewmaican" (Behn Goldis), is an American singer with a strict orthodox background, who views life and society on a spiritual level. He has
a long history of authentic dancehall reggae and hip hop music in a real Jamaican stylee, also including songs like: "God Mi Luv" and "Hashem Ohev Oti Ani Yehudi" in a real reggae yardee riddim.

Kayama - Mussareggae (incl. samples and CD) a great new Jewish Reggae artist, Rabbi Mikael Zerbib, born in Bordeaux, France, recently brought out his first solo CD, with all hebrew reggae songs, incl great original fresh versions of Dayenu, Lekha Dodi, and new compositions. The CD's title "Mussareggae" means Reggae with Ethics, songs advocating integrity in relationships with others, and above all, acknowledgment of the Creator.
The Ex-Centric Sound System is a Dub band featuring two Israeli and three Ghanian musicians. They bring an irie mixture of Dub, African, and Oriental music. Yossi Fine, the bass player, is well-known for his contributions to many world-famous music productions, such as on David Bowie album "Outside". Ex-Centric Sound System is starting to gain international success. Check out their latest album:

KlezSka's album on mp3.com includes the track Karpas, next to many very interesting other tracks. Klezska combines Jewish/Klezmer/Israeli melodies with traditional Ska, Rock Steady & Reggae music.
The Ari Ben Moses Band: a drummer from Ghana, a Bassist from the Carribean, a Jewish blues guitarist who sounds like Hendrix and Ari ben Moses, an NYC Jew who travelled to Africa with Ijahman Levi as keyboardist and background vocalist. The band has a powerful Reggae/Rock sound. Listen online to some tracks of their CD! Or check some full-length tracks at MP3.com.

Sista Warrior and Shakespear is fusing the sounds of Deep Roots Reggae and Jewish Ghetto-Life lyrics. Check out her new CD: "Hip Hop Woman", and the previous CD: "Valiant Woman" (click on the images), plus 2 great older songs: "Stop The Suicide Bombers", and "The Seven Laws of Noah". Imanouel, inspired by the best Jamaican music, especially the legendary Studio One record label, is one of the greatest Jewish reggae singers, now working on his first album that will include conscious lyrics on a rock steady and rock reggae riddims. Zadik is a new reggae band fusing traditional Jewish songs and prayers with Reggae music. Their debut album, "We Are One" will be released before the end of 2010, but on their website you can alreday pre-order it!
Ron Wiseman singer and composer of Jewish Reggae, presents his first full length CD: Mystical Mood. Popular, catchy, melodies, with Tanakh inspired lyrics. Ron's site includes sound samples and CD ordering info.
Elan may sound like a new name in reggae to many, but he has a long history in reggae and other music, including a few years as the vocalist for the legendary band The Wailers! Elan is of Moroccan Israeli and Native American
descent and currently lives in LA.
Elan's work currently is mostly mainstream reggae, including cooperations with reggae greats such as: Cutty Ranks, Assassin and Tami Chynn; being opening act on the UB40 tour; doing a duet with Gwen Stephanie, etc. Yet he also composed "Nothing Is Worth Losing You," a paean to Jerusalem, together with his Rabbi, and thinks people are eager for spirituality in their music.

Below, you'll find music with some or more reggae to it. Be careful to listen the samples, before you buy a CD or so, as it is not always very reggae-ish or may have only one or a few reggae tracks!!!
Ilan Friedman composes and plays music in many styles, available to listen to in MP3 format, including at least one very nice reggae track named Zion.
The Jamie Saft Trio made 2 reggae inspired albums some years ago: From the covernotes of the CD "Sovlanut": "..Sovlanut brings the range of Jewish music styles to bear on modern forms. Hassidic mysticism, Sephardic/Middle Eastern vibe, and klezmer's dancey clarinet, over dub reggae rhythm, infused with Yiddish samples and Hammond-spiked drum'n'bass." Though these musicians moved on to other music styles, "Sovlanut" is still available and worth your while. They also made a Dub album: Merzdub back then.
Shawn's Kugel band combines Klezmer, Sephardic, contemporary Chassidic, reggae and jazz. Check out their CD: Shawn's Kugel - Most Precious of Days.
