Reggae Places Inna Zion, I checked out in October 1998, updated after new visit August 1999.The Official ISRAELI RASTA Site Inna Zion, check out the small list of favourite albums I&I made while reasoning in the hills.
Reggae club SOWETO, 61 HaYarqon street, Tel Aviv, reggae night: thu/fri/sat night about 24:00 till 5:00; cool and neat looking place; favoured by the Roots as well as the Raggamuffin/dancehall minded Ethiopians and of course all other Israeli reggae lovers. If you get lucky, there is also reggae roots and dancehall on tuesday, the rap/soul/hiphop night, as DJ Yossi adapts the music perfectly to the mood of the crowd. This is a serious reggae club, easily over 500 people can be in it, and a nice stage allows for live acts by bands and soundsystems as well. One minute walking from the ever warm beach (even at night). A nice hotel (Top) is 2 minutes away. I am not just trying to be nice, if I say that we do not have a comparable place in the Netherlands. A photo of the entrance to reggae club Soweto can be found in the Israeli Reggae site's photo gallery)
Tony Ray's RASTA PUB, HaRakevet street 36, Tel Aviv, opens about 21:00; nice place with rootsy athmosphere run by Jamaican singer.
Music Pub/club GLASNOST, Heleni HaMalka street, Yerusalem, tuesday night is reggae night; I had the pleasure to hear and see Roots Africa playing. Good place to be also other nights; much live music; good beers including draft Guinness.
There now seems to be a new rasta pub in Beer Sheva also, I did not visit it though.
More info on some clubs/persons/bands mentioned, and more.
